Zentrela Cognalyzer Cannabis Impairment Detection System
The Zentrela Cognalyzer is the first device of its kind, and pairs EEG technology with proprietary algorithms to analyze brain activity and monitor the effects of cannabis products on the user. Not only can the system understand how impaired the subject is, but by plotting these results over time, the system can paint a very accurate picture of how quickly the “high” begins, lasts and fades for different cannabis products.

Originally the system was designed to provide law enforcement officers with an accurate way to test for cannabis impairment at road side stops, but it has proven to be of great value to cannabis producers wanting to better understand how their products affect users and how they can tweak to improve the experience. Due to the use of EEG electrodes on the head and scalp, hygiene needed to be heavily considered.

The team at Zentrela challenged us to design a headset that would be robust enough for repeated use (on a single subject), but low cost enough to discard after a single use (like for law enforcement applications). The final design is extremely adjustable to fit any user’s head, and to allow precise placement of the electrodes for accurate readings every time.
